Web 3.0 is the latest framework for the internet; where the main aspect is that each individual must own their data. This is a progression from Web 2.0, where systems were developed to be centralised and hosted on a single platform where the data is stored.

With Web 3.0, data is de-centralised; removing the need for a central host that fully controls or "owns" the data. With the de-centralised structure of Web 3.0, any device that accesses a system can become a location where data is stored. This design is specifically meant to enable individuals whose data is required by themselves and other parties, to own their data by keeping up-to-date records of this data on their device.

Security and Integrity of the data is enhanced significantly due to that the device stores the data within a Blockchain. The Blockchain is a ledger of all transactions that occur on the data. Transactions can occur by the owner/individual or other party, updating a detail of the record or adding a new record. Blockchain systems do not allow for records to be deleted, hence the ledger is essentially only updated with new records. One of the security measures of the blockchain in this regard is that, each time a record is added or updated, it it required to be validated by all other participating individuals, organisations or devices that have a copy of the Blockchain records of the individual or organisation.

For Blockchain to exist effectively, it needs to be part of a Blockchain Network. This network includes all individuals with authority to view and/or update records. Participating individuals or organisations within the network, always keep updated records which are 100% similar to all other records within the network. Hence, when a record is updated by one participating entity, before it is stored in the Blockchain; it needs to be validated by the other entities within the network and approved for permanent storage.
